Frequently asked questions

How is EmberCheck different from my county's fire risk map?
County fire maps are static — they show historical hazard zones that update every few years. EmberCheck scores your home's actual current conditions using live satellite fire detections and real-time weather, updated every 12 hours. A county map tells you where fires have burned. We tell you when conditions are right for one to start near you.
What counties do you cover?
We currently monitor 23 high-risk California counties including Los Angeles, Butte, Sonoma, Ventura, San Diego, Shasta, Napa, Mendocino, Santa Barbara, Riverside, San Bernardino, and more. We're expanding coverage quarterly.
How accurate is the risk score?
Our model uses the Fosberg Fire Weather Index (FFWI), the same index used by the US Forest Service, combined with NASA satellite proximity data. In independent backtesting against 526 CalFire historical fires, our model correctly identified dangerous fire conditions in 89% of events.
Can I cancel anytime?
Monthly subscribers can cancel any time and retain access through the end of their billing period. Annual subscribers are billed once per year — we don't offer mid-year refunds but you keep access through your subscription end date.
Is this useful outside fire season?
Yes. California fires now occur year-round — the Camp Fire (Paradise, 2018) ignited in November. Dry offshore winds can create extreme fire weather any month. Annual subscribers stay protected 365 days and save $45 vs. monthly.
Do you share my address with anyone?
Never. Your address is used only to determine your county risk score. We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising. Ever.

Don't find out when it's on the news.

The Camp Fire gave Paradise 90 minutes to evacuate. EmberCheck watches your area 24/7 and alerts you when conditions turn dangerous — so you have time to act.
